THEFTS FROM CARS - THE FACTS
- There are over two and a half million vehicle-related thefts
in the UK. This accounts for nearly a fifth of all recorded crime…costing
about £3.4bn a year (John Denham, Home Office Minister, 2002).
- 60% were thefts from vehicles, 13% thefts of vehicles and 27% attempts.
- Over 1.5 million thefts from vehicles, one every 20 seconds, and 707,000
attempted break-ins during 2001/2002.
- 10.9% of vehicle owners experienced at least one vehicle-related theft
- (British Crime Survey 2001).
- According to British Crime Survey estimates, an average of 250 laptops
are stolen EVERY DAY from vehicles in the UK.
